John Joseph "Jack" Robertson was diagnosed at two days old with a congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). In order to save and sustain Jack's life, he had the Norwood surgery when he was ten days old and the Bi-Directional Glenn surgery at six months of age at Children's
Mercy
Hospital in
Kansas City, Missouri .
After obtaining a second opinion at
Boston Children's Hospital, Jack was determined not to be a true HLHS child, but rather his diagnosis has been further defined as Shone's Syndrome. He has been recommended for the Bi-Ventricular Repair, which will take place in July 23, 2009. However, to do this procedure, he needed an intermediary surgery to repair his VSDs and unblock his mitrial valve. This surgery took place on December 11, 2008.
This website was created to document Jack's progress, to provide information about HLHS and Shone's Syndrome and hopefully to serve as an inspiration to other heart children and their parents.
